OGHS - Outdoor camp with a duo and group activities
Task 1: Demonstrate knowledge of safety issues
Involves completion of a risk management matrix identifying what could go wrong in an outdoor activity, why these things might happen and what you can do to manage them safely and how to deal with emergency situations. The risk management matrix will be completed under test conditions during exam time.
Task 2: Putting safety management procedures into action
This involves you demonstrating safe behaviour in all outdoor activities while on camp. This will also involve preparation leading up to camp at school. You will be required to be both physically and emotionally safe in the group, to be safe with equipment and to be wearing the correct safety clothing. One of the tasks on camp is to be part of a group that organises and leads a group challenge. Your participation and leadership throughout the team challenges will be observed by teachers and this will contribute towards your final assessment grade. You are required to complete three self-reflection sheets commenting on your safety. Your teacher will assess you during the camp using the safety checklist. You will also complete a reflection summary sheet which will be done at the conclusion of camp. It is important that you learn and understand the link between risk management and outdoor adventure activities.
